↳ Knowing your specifications.

At Savile Row Eyewear, we believe that opticians are skilled specialists that provide an invaluable service, and recommend that you purchase eyewear through them. However, we understand that for one reason or another this is not always possible. This section covers the basics of purchasing eyewear online.

The most important part of buying eyewear online is knowing your specifications: your eye size, your bridge size, and your temple length. If you do not yet have prescription frames, we strongly recommend you have an optician take these measurements for you. If you do already have frames, these measurements are most likely engraved in them, and you should find them somewhere on the temples or the fronts.

  • For eye size, look for a number between 35 and 65.
  • For bridge width, look for a number between 14 and 24.
  • For temple length, look for a number between 130 and 170.

  • It is also important to have an idea of what type of frame is likeliest to suit you. If you've already found your own style, that's great! But in case you're unsure, here are a few general tips:

  • Round faces work well with rectangular frames.
  • Oval faces work with most frames.
  • Triangular faces work well with rectangular frames.
  • Square faces work well with oval or round frames.
  • Rectangular faces work well with oval or round frames with typically larger sizes.

    ↳ Buying our frames online.

    Assuming you know your measurements and style (if you don't, read the previous section), you have the information you need to buy our frames. However, there are a few things to keep in mind, as the way we make our frames is unique, and could be the source of some confusion.

    All our frames are made to order. This means that we only make frames once we receive specific instructions. They are also made with specialized machinery which dates back to the end of the 19th century and which is operated by skilled craftsmen. We use dozens of machines and hundreds of processes for a single frame, in part because we produce every component individually. This gives us the ability to tailor-make frames; in other words, because we produce individual components separately, we can put together different temple types, temple lengths, eye sizes, eye shapes, finishes, bridge types, and bridge widths in a single frame. Our store aims to illustrate that diversity, all the while making the process of knowing what you're ordering as simple as possible.

    The store is divided into two categories: our Classics, and our Combinations. For every model, you'll be able to choose your preferred finishes. For Classics, you do this before you click on 'Add to cart'. Your personal specifications should be entered into the form that pops up subsequently (see next section). For Combinations, you should enter your preferred acetate style before clicking 'Add to cart'. You should then fill out the form.

    Because of the diversity of our frames, we cannot currently provide photographs for every variation of a frame we make. We are working on improving this, but at the moment we only have images of 'basic' models (though some models, like the Panto, have photographs for most of the 20 variations we can produce). If you'd like variants whose images are unavailable, we suggest you browse our catalogue for a decent visual representation of the finishes available for each frame.

    In the future, we plan on having a fully-customizable make-your-own frame where you pick-and-choose every component of your frame. We also plan to be able to fit your frames with prescription lenses, but we cannot do this yet. Your local optician will be able to fit our frames with suitable lenses.


    ↳ Filling out the form.

    Once you click on 'Add to cart', a form will pop up depending on what type of frame you are purchasing.


    For Classic frames, we ask that you enter your preferred eye size, your bridge width, and your temple length. The latter two should be identical across the frames you own. To complete the eye size, however, you need to refer to the product page of the item you'd like to purchase, which will tell you which eye sizes we produce as standard. You should select one of these numbers. If you genuinely wish eye sizes smaller or larger than what is described as standard, we can probably make this, but we suggest you contact us before placing your order. If you place an order and request an eye size we are unable to accomodate, we will issue you with a full refund promptly. If your current frames are not Asian fit, then you don't need to worry about bowed temples or Asian fit pads. Bowed temples are used for wider faces (thus the bow), and Asian fit pads are used for wider noses.

    For Combination frames, we ask that you select your preferred frame size (we currently only have one size, which has a 21mm bridge, but will soon offer larger and smaller options), temple options, and temple length. Your temples can either be in Gold or Rhodium (silver), with one of three finishes: Shiny, Matt, or Engraved.

    Anything you enter into this form will not alter the price of your product. This is merely information for us so we know exactly what to produce.

    ↳ Shipping.

    We currently ship to every country in the world except the UK.

    For every country in the world, shipping is via FedEx Economy for $15. Depending on your proximity to the UK, delivery will take from 2 to 5 working days. FedEx Priority is an extra $15, and is expected to take 1 to 3 working days.

    ↳ Returns.

    Because our frames are made to order, we are unable to accept returns unless they are due to a manufacturer's fault (up to two years after receipt given normal wear and tear). However, we understand that it is difficult to know with certainty whether a frame will suit you. We therefore reserve the right to accomodate reasonable requests for refunds on popular frames — but we cannot guarantee this. To complement this, for any purchase, we offer a replacement service (subject to a $150 restocking fee) that will allow you to request another frame with different specifications (we will only start making this frame once you have returned your previously purchased frame and paid the $150 restocking fee).

    For your reference, a table follows with a general rule as to what is and isn't covered under our manufacturer's guarantee:

  • Oxidation or discoloration.
  • Rough handling.
  • Broken nosepad posts and broken hinges.
  • Excessive exposure to extreme conditions, such as extreme cold, extreme heat, or prolonged exposure to water.
  • Stripped screws.
  • Poor care such as improper cleaning.
  • Misshapen or uneven bridge, rims, or temples.

Please don't ship the order before contacting us, as we'll need to confirm beforehand that a return is appropriate. We recommend you ship the item tracked and insured as we are not responsible for courrier errors. Note that you are responsible for postage costs. We will issue you a full refund as soon as we confirm receipt and that a full refund is appropriate.

    In the unlikely event that we send you an incorrect or damaged order, we will replace it free of charge (and refund return postage) if you notify us of this within 30 days of receipt. Please do not tamper with or attempt to fix your frames, as this will void your manufacturer's warranty.

    ↳ I placed my order. What now?

    We will shortly begin production on your frame. We expect that this will take us 5-8 working days for small orders, and possibly more for larger orders. Any Combination frame order can take up to 4 weeks. Once production is complete, we will send you an e-mail notifying you of this, and it will contain a tracking number for your shipment. Expect another 1-5 working days for delivery. If at any point you'd like to know the status of your order, please contact us, though be advised that we will notify you if there are unexpected delays.
